From the Koine Greek word παράκλητος (Parakletos) (Strong's G3875) meaning "one who consoles - a comforter" or "one who intercedes on our behalf - an advocate". It may reflect Hebrew: מְנַחֵם‎ m^ənaḥḥēm "comforter". According to Walter Bauer's Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature: "the technical meaning 'lawyer', 'attorney' is rare."
